Passages Community Mentoring Program An adventure into manhood for
highschool aged guys
"All the things that parents have nightmares about (adolescent
risk-taking, alcohol, drugs and criminal activity) happen because we do
not find channels for young men's desire for glory and heroic roles.
Boys look out at the larger society and see little to believe in or
join in with. Even their rebellion is packaged up and sold back to them
by advertisers and the music industry. They want to jump somewhere
better and higher, but that place is nowhere in sight.”
(Steve Biddulph)
What is the "PASSAGES" program
The philosophy of the program is structured
around
small mentoring groups of 8 boys and 3 leaders.
The program includes a series of
weekend camps throughout the 5
years.
These camps provide the place and space for boys to
express their
concerns and their dreams and to
discover who they are and what
they
are capable of
becoming.
Creating a network of mentors is a key to the
program, where boys can
find role models to whom they can relate, adopting
the proven 'life on
life' training style. We aim to gather men from the
wider community to
become
mentors.

After he had finished washing their feet, he took his robe, put it back on, and went back to his place at the table.
Then he said, "Do you understand what I have done to you? You address
me as 'Teacher' and 'Master,' and rightly so. That is what I am. So if
I, the Master and Teacher, washed your feet, you must now wash each
other's feet. I've laid down a pattern for you. What I've done, you do.
I'm only pointing out the obvious. A servant is not ranked above his
master; an employee doesn't give orders to the employer. If you
understand what I'm telling you, act like it—and live a blessed life."
John 13:12-17 (MSG)
